Code-Breakers is an exciting phonics programme for the early years which takes a sound-to-grapheme approach (i.e. synthetic phonics).
The materials provided enable teachers to run a complete set of daily 10-15 minute sessions from Reception to the end of Year 2.



Code-Breakers has been extensively trialled by Hamilton Reading Project and has undergone a number of re-writes based on both teacher and other educational specialist feedback. In addition, a number of schools across the country have run pre and post testing with their pupils which have then been compared with the control schools. Two key factors emerged:

The vast majority of children made improvements in all skills involved (segmenting, sequencing, encoding, decoding).

A secondary and important finding was that the children became far more motivated to write and to read and had increased in their confidence to 'have a go'!
